Personal Development
At The Eastbourne Academy, our commitment to our vision and values ensures that we shape students who are not just academically excellent, but who are also compassionate, ambitious, and respectful individuals. By being a student at The Eastbourne Academy, you are part of an exceptional, future-focused academy that is steadfast in its commitment to the personal development of its students.
Curiosity: We create an environment that nurtures a desire for knowledge. Our innovative, evidence-informed teaching methods encourage students to embrace their studies passionately, while exploring a diverse range of subjects and interests. By instilling this love for learning, we equip our students with the intellectual tools necessary to navigate the challenges of an increasingly complex world.
Ambition: We inspire our students to strive for their personal best, empowering them to surpass their own expectations. Our comprehensive enrichment programmes, including our esteemed scholars programmes and meticulously crafted careers curriculum, foster personal growth. This approach empowers students to embrace their individual talents, honing their skills and enabling them to confidently shape their own future.
Respect: We take great pride in cultivating an inclusive environment that values the contribution of every member of our community. Our zero-tolerance policy for bullying, coupled with our commitment to celebrating diversity, encourages students to appreciate the importance of mutual respect. This enriches our academy's culture, ensuring all students feel valued, secure, and heard.
Engagement: We focus on fostering a sense of social responsibility in our students, preparing them for active participation in society. Through our variety of clubs, group activities, and inclusive community events, we encourage students to become engaged, conscientious citizens who are well prepared to make a positive impact in their communities.
The Personal Development Curriculum at The Eastbourne Academy covers the following areas:
● Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE/SPHERE)
● Fundamental British Values (FBV) and Citizenship Education
● Careers and Living in the Wider World Education
Personal Development is underpinned by the ethos and values of TEA. The Personal Development programme is delivered in a number of ways.
Each student has a mentor who works closely with each child supporting their Personal Development. The Head of Year and Pastoral Support Manager lead the year group mentor teams.
As well as supporting them with their academic progress, the mentor will be providing them with the opportunities that will allow them to thrive and lead happy, successful, and healthy lives and support them to contribute positively to the wider community. They will meet for a timetabled lesson every day and follow a bespoke mentor program which supports their understanding and application of the FBV’s as well as their mental health and wellbeing.
