Work Experience

We are delighted to be in a position to be able to offer our Year 10 students a one-week work experience in Term 6

As well as focusing on Gatsby Benchmark 6 - Experiences of the workplace, work experience also promotes the following:

  • Building confidence and self esteem

  • Developing communication and social skills

  • Helping make informed decisions with regard to Post-16 education or work

  • Gaining experience to support future job or college applications

  • Learning new skills

  • Learning to work with adults

  • Learning to follow instructions and work on initiative

  • Team work and co-operation skills

Students are encouraged to find their own placement (there must be Employer Liability Insurance in place), and all students will receive information during the launch assembly and additional support through their SPHERE lessons and Career guidance meetings to do this. Parents will also receive a copy of the assembly presentation and a letter on how to support their child with this process.

 Year 9 Options

The development of an exceptional, inclusive and growth oriented learning community is at the heart of The Eastbourne Academy’s curriculum intent. By endeavouring to unlock and nurture a broad range of skills and talents, we strive to maximise each student’s potential through evidence informed teaching and learning. Students will leave The Eastbourne Academy with the knowledge to gain and maintain employment and independence.

The Government are encouraging schools, students and parents to follow a ‘traditional’ curriculum in Key Stage 4; The English Baccalaureate. This consists of English, Maths, Science, a Language and a Humanities subjects (History or Geography). In line with The Government’s ambition, we encourage all students to study these Ebacc subjects. We understand that this pathway will not be suitable for all students, thus we offer a wide range of qualifications to suit a range of learners.

In Year 9, students have the chance to make some decisions about their future by choosing some of the subjects that they wish to study in Year 10 and 11. Making this decision can be tough and confusing, and so here are some simple ways to make it easier to make the right choice:

Alumni

One way of developing aspirations is to provide students with examples of what can be achieved. We are keen to hear from our alumni, so if you are a former student who is willing to share information about your journey through education and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
We would also like to create a new alumni display in school and a link on this website so would be grateful if you could send in a photo of yourself with the following information:

If you could also specify if you are able to come into school to attend event or give talks to our students, we would be very grateful. Please contact our Careers advisor: melissa.gibson@swale.at

Labour Market Information

Labour market information (LMI) informs students about local or national demand for different skills and from different industries. LMI can inform students;

  • Which jobs are likely to be easiest or hardest to find in your area

  • Which are the big employers in different areas and which ones have jobs on offer

  • What skills employers are looking for and which are in short supply

  • How much you can expect to be paid in specific jobs

  • What working conditions are like

  • What qualifications will be most helpful if you want a certain career

  • What the jobs of the future might look like and which jobs might disappear

All students and parents should have access to high-quality information about future study options and labour market opportunities.

By the age of 14, all students at The Eastbourne Academy will have accessed and used information about career paths and the labour market to help inform their own decisions on KS4 subject choices and Post 16 pathways

We encourage families to access and use Labour Market information (LMI) to support their children in making choices about their futures.
