BTEC Health & Social Care Level 1 & 2 Tech Award
KS4
The tech award is for students who want to acquire sector-specific applied knowledge through vocational contexts by studying human lifespan development, health and social care services and values, and health and wellbeing as part of their KS4 learning. The qualification recognises the value of learning skills, knowledge and vocational attributes to complement GCSEs.
Component 1 – Human lifespan development -Internal assessment, set by Pearson
In this Component, you will study how people grow and develop throughout their life, from infancy to adulthood, this includes PIES development and the different factors that may affect this. An individual’s development can be affected by major life events, such as marriage, parenthood or moving to a new house/school and you will learn how people adapt to these changes, as well as the types and sources of support that can help them.
Component 2 – Health & Social Care Services and Values – Internal assessment set by Pearsons
In this Component, students will explore health and social care services and how they met the needs of service users. You will also study the skills, attributes and values required when giving care. Students will explore a range of health conditions and how they can be managed by the individual and the different healthcare services that are available. Students will explore how skills, attributes and values benefit individuals when receiving care.
Component 3 – Health & Wellbeing – External exam set by Pearsons
Students will explore the factors that affect health and wellbeing, learning about physiological and lifestyle indicators, and person-centred approaches to make recommendations to improve an individual’s health and wellbeing. Students will explore factors that can have a positive or negative influence on a person’s health and well-being. Students will learn to interpret physiological and lifestyle indicators and what they mean for a person’s state of health. Students will learn how this information is used to recommend appropriate actions for improving a person’s health and well-being as well as exploring the difficulties an individual may face when trying to make these changes.
The external exam builds on the knowledge and understanding acquired and developed in Components 1 & 2, and includes the internal assessment. Students will apply their knowledge and understanding of human lifespan development and life events, sources and types of support, health and social care services, the skills, attributes and values that contribute to care and the barriers and personal obstacles to accessing services.
