Assessment

At The Eastbourne Academy, our unwavering commitment is to enable every student to actualise their fullest potential. This commitment is vividly demonstrated in our approach to student assessment, where we firmly believe the core purpose of assessment is to inform teaching and curriculum planning.

Assessment that informs Teaching

We utilise a comprehensive assessment strategy that is an impressive combination of formative and summative assessments. Formative assessments, implemented throughout the educational journey, equip students with immediate, personalised feedback, celebrating each individual's unique learning trajectory. These assessments also grant our teachers and curriculum leaders with the ability to swiftly adjust their teaching to dispel misunderstandings and cater to individual learning needs. Our periodic summative assessments present a detailed evaluation of students' comprehension and affirm the efficacy of our ground-breaking teaching methodologies. Serving the dual purpose of gauging academic progress and shaping our pedagogical and curriculum planning, these assessments are timed based on the lesson distribution in each curriculum area. We then inform parents and carers of the specific strengths and weaknesses for each subject, encouraging targetted parental support.

Our Principles of Effective Assessment

Our strategy drives the principles of Purpose, Validity, Reliability, and Value, resulting in a robust and innovative approach. We ensure each assessment provides rich and diagnostic data that is used to inform teaching and curriculum planning, ensuring.

The principles of validity and reliability are at the heart of our approach. We craft assessments that truthfully gauge the understanding of our students, ensuring that conclusions drawn are appropriate and insightful. This allows us to reflect and improve our offerings through data based decision making to ensure our students receive excellence as standard, in every lesson.

We have also woven the principle of value into our assessment system. We strike a balance between the quality of insights obtained and the time spent on curriculum, ensuring that our focus remains on addressing misunderstandings and enhancing comprehension. This dedication to efficient and effective assessment assures that our assessments are more than just evaluations; they are instruments that foster excellence.

Accessing Student Data

We pride ourselves on our digital systems that allow students and their parents/carers to access student progress data at any time, anywhere and on any device.

We use a parent portal from Bromcom called My Child At School (MCAS) for assessment data.
