Maths
Leader: Mr Clarke
There are four full time teachers and one part time teacher and the teaching of mathematics is moving towards application to the real world.
Key Stage 3: There is no setting for students in their first year at The Eastbourne Academy; by year 8, they are set according to ability, and they will continue to study the four main elements of Mathematics: Number, Algebra, Area, Shape and Space and Data Handling.
Periodically throughout Key Stage 3, rich tasks will be given to enable pupils to develop their skills in representing, communicating and reflecting, interpreting and evaluating and analysing their work. There are regular assessments throughout each academic year.
Homework is a vital part of students' education, as it gives them the opportunity to confirm their understanding or to seek further support. Maths homework policy is to set homework once a week. They use a website known as mymaths for their main homework, although this is not the only source.
There are also opportunities for a large number of pupils to work on their Numeracy skills in order to improve their confidence in the classroom.
