The Eastbourne Academy

Teaching and Learning

The Eastbourne Academy expects its teaching staff to be learners too and always to reflect on better ways to deliver the best possible learning.

Students are expected to make every effort to improve and in return they should expect high quality provision from the staff.

Students investigate their own preferred learning styles and then are expected to develop them in other areas. They should know their personal targets and what they have to do to achieve them. They should expect to be challenged and developed in their learning. Lessons should contain clear objectives and outcomes which should be shared with the students so they are able to work to develop their own learning.

Teachers are expected to be researchers and every year there are individual research projects which involve all members of staff in developing their professional competence. We have Directors of Learning, new posts created by the Academy to work with teachers in intensive programmes to improve the quality of lessons. We want all our lessons to be at least good and frequently outstanding.
