Academy Communities
Darwin
Head of School: Ms R Joseph
Community Manager: Mrs G Redmond
Darwin Community delivers English, Media, Modern Foreign Languages, Citizenship, PSHEE and the Humanities subjects.
The community was named after the scientist Darwin as he was an inspirational risk-taking explorer who went on voyages of discovery; an ethos we wish to foster in our learners. Darwin 's theory of Evolution can be embraced as a metaphor for how we see our students developing:
" A gradual process in which something changes into a different and usually more complex or better form."
Da Vinci
Head of School: Mrs V Stevens
Community Manager: Mrs L Guyton
Da Vinci is home to Maths, Physical Education, ICT, Music, Drama and Performing Arts and is named after Leonardo Da Vinci, best known for his artistic genius.
Leonardo Da Vinci has been described as "the most diversely talented man that ever lived " and as a "True Renaissance Man" (someone that has wide interests and is an expert in several areas). In Da Vinci we believe that every child has a talent and it is our role to find that talent and to nurture it. We also want our learners to leave The Eastbourne Academy equipped with a wide range of skills that will prepare them for their lifelong learning journey.
Our philosophy can be summed up by Leonardo himself who stated, "I have been impressed with the urgency of doing. Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Being willing is not enough; we must do."
Franklin
Head of School: Ms J McCluskey
Community Manager: Mrs T Moors
Franklin Learning Community is home to Science, Design and Technology, Art, Learning Journey and Vocational Education and is named after the English scientist Rosalind Franklin.
Rosalind Franklin became a world renowned scientist in the early 1950s, overcoming the objection of her father and prejudice from male colleagues. She is now credited as being a key scientist in the discovery of the structure of DNA, although, in her lifetime, her work was overlooked. Despite this, she did not give up and went on to complete ground breaking work on the structure of viruses.
Rosalind Franklin exemplifies the ethos of Franklin community, everyone is expected to do their best despite any adversity they may face.
